We had a chance to have emerging country artist Vanessa Marie Carter answer a few questions on the eve of the release of her brand new single Bless My Heart.  Check out what she had to say.

Your brand new single came out Oct 27th by the title Bless My Heart,  Can you tell us a little bit about it?

Bless My Heart is the perfect mix of naughty meets nice, and I think that’s why I love it so much!  I really wanted my first single to be something that people would be excited to listen to, and I hope we accomplished that with this song.

Going through the process of picking that first single what was it about Bless my Heart that really had you hooked?

Usually within about 30 seconds of a song I can tell if its something I’m going to like or not; Bless My Heart grabbed me immediately.  A large part of me as a person, and an artist, is this balance of being a little bad and mostly good.  I think that’s something so many young women experience, and Bless My Heart captured that in such a perfect, fun way.

How has the opportunity at Boots & Hearts helped you grow as an artist?

More than anything, Boots & Hearts opened so many doors for me.  I think that festival is so well-respected in the Country music community that, that exposure just can’t be ignored.  I knew immediately when I won that things were going to change, but my opportunities since winning have way exceeded any expectations I had.  Getting to play larger venues to larger crowds is always going to be a positive growth experience.

What has been the biggest surprise after winning ?

I’m not sure I’d call it a surprise… but I think the level of commitment and involvement from Universal music has really impressed me.  I might be biased cause I love my team so much, but I honestly do think I’m in the best hands in the business. ❤

You’ve been spending time in Nashville over the last couple years networking and writing.  What is the one thing you have to do when in Nashville?

I could write you a novel on this subject!! I’ve been back and forth to Nashville for about 5 years now and there are still amazing things I discover whenever I’m there.  If you’ve never been to Nashville, you’ve got to do Broadway at least once, it’s a right of passage.  I really love 12 South and strolling around that neighbourhood.  And actually now that I’m thinking about it, I don’t think I’ve ever spent time there without going to bartaco…so definitely go there!! Best margaritas and portobello tacos in the world.

Social media plays such a big role in engaging with fans and others in the industry. What platform are you finding you are using the most?  And how are you using it?

Social media is such an incredible tool for artists today.  I think currently I would say instagram and instagram stories! I love how interactive it is and I always like to see who responds to a story.  I’m also guilty of spending way too much time on it!!!

When will we get a chance to see you perform Bless My Heart Live?

I still like to play the bar scene when I can! Playing in bars was such a huge part of my life for the past 6-7 years! So you can still find me at Boots & Bourbon and a few other of my favourites! I try to keep my website updated with any shows coming up, so definitely check there to see where I’ll be 🙂
