So as I sit wondering who Boots & Hearts will be booking for next years festival, I paused to think of all the Canadian artists that are currently riding a high in terms of both music and fan base. The one name that seems to be stuck in my head is that of Brett Kissel.
After seeing his performance at this years Trackside Festival in London, I truly think that Brett might be one of the only Canadian artists that could actually pull off headlining the 2nd largest country music festival in North America. Now before you get your knickers in a knot about not choosing someone like Dallas Smith or Tim Hicks I am actually looking at a couple different factors. 1st one is, which Canadian artist hasn’t played Boots in a while that would be Brett (2014) and last time he was there he was up on a Coors Banquet Trailer rockin’ the killer kickoff party crowd (that had to be at least 20,000 strong). But Brett hasn’t been back since.
The 2nd factor is New Music… We know Brett has some new music on the way and we all know that most artists like to promote that music to as many people as possible and Boots knows how to pack them in. What a way to return! Headlining on the main stage in front of 40,000+ die-hard Canadian Country music fans. Having covered the festival over the last five years, it just seems like this might be the right time to let the Canadian talent shine. Now some of you may say that Brett isn’t a name like Keith Urban, Brad Paisley or Blake Shelton all artists that have been headliners during previous years but Kissel has amassed a strong following of die hard fans over the last 5 years. I could defiantly hear the crowd belting out the lyrics to 3-2-1, Forty Thousand strong and watching BK grin ear to ear waving that Canadian Flag doing it.
