Clay Walker first had his number one single “What’s it to you” on the Billboard Charts back in 1993. Clay is currently on tour where we had a chance to capture his show at Casino, NS in Halifax.
It may have been awhile since Walker broke into the country music world but on this night he proved his longevity in the industry. Not only did he look like he did back in 1993 but he sounded maybe even better. Funny how country artists really do get better with age. It was so refreshing to hear the original country sound without all the pop infused beats of today’s country genre. It was a total pleasure for fans to see Clay and the band perform here in Halifax. It was great to see one of Clay’s newest band mates, local guitar player, Kris Richards, who only left Halifax 9 months ago to move to Nashville to pursue his career.
Clay had mentioned that although he had been to Canada many times he had not been to the east coast. He expressed how much he loved Halifax including the food. Clay spent some time at the Gahan House Restaurant on the waterfront where he enjoyed the best oysters he had even eaten.
There were a few surprises in the show that we don’t want to mention and ruin for the shows still left on his tour. But one delight was a performance of Leonards Cohen’s “Hallelujah”
Clay has a busy schedule still ahead and plenty of chances to take in this great show. Check out his website for tour dates still remaining. http://claywalker.com/tour/
