The first Country Wild Fest kicked off on Saturday in Cobourg Ontario with a full day of music featuring the likes of Sawmill Road, Kansas Stone, Sacha, Runaway Angel, Gentleman Husbands and headliner Cold Creek County.
Set at Victoria park right by the water, it was a beautiful space and finally, a day full of sunshine. The fine folks of Country Wild Fest got it right, organizers Matt Williams and Andrew Hall did a fantastic job putting it all together. Plenty of delicious food vendors on the property, plenty of beer and of course, music. Everyone was well cared for including all of the artists backstage. For a first time festival, Country Wild Fest nailed it.
I first saw Kansas Stone at CMT Festival last year in Kitchener. Great guys, and always a good time. Hitting Country Wild with their brand of country rock in the early afternoon sun. Check out their tunes like Whiskey And Wine, Drink On. Keep an eye out for Brian Vain and Matt Davey heading into the summer.
Sacha was up after Kansas Stone and she is a refreshing, energetic, and wonderfully talented musician who was all smiles. This was my first opportunity to catch her live and I look forward to more chances in the future. Check out her beauty song Small Town History.
Runaway Angel hitting the stage as the sun starts to go down, leaving them in a golden glow. Almost fitting. It’s obvious these women have been playing alongside one another for a while. Their harmonies are always on point. The crowd enjoying their catchy tunes My Someday, June, Easy and new one Worst Song In The World.
I love going to a festival, not knowing a handful of bands going in and being completely taken in by someone who had previously been off your radar. Well that was Gentleman Husbands at Country Wild. They have been around for a while and had a cross country tour with Matthew Good and I don’t know, I don’t know how I missed them but the Cobourg born band were absolutely solid with a Tom Petty vibe, and a great direct opener for Cold Creek County. Not really falling under the country genre but, their rock roots geared everyone up for Cold Creeks high energy set to come. Get into Gentleman Husbands. Check out Come Down, Shelter Valley, Bloodlines.
Now, sun is going down and it is time for Cold Creek County to hit the stage. Cold Creek is always high energy on stage and the crowd was ready for it. Joined by new member Ches Anthony, the guy jumped right in with Good Thing We’re In The Country followed by new party anthem It’s About To Get Good off of their strong new EP Homemade. On stage, the guys of Cold Creek are everywhere. Jumping around, constantly interacting with fans, they don’t stop. As a live show, it’s a must see for any music lover. Playing all of their hit songs from last year along with killer new ones like Money, Ain’t That Complicated and current single Homemade. The guys did some stellar covers too with 24k Magic, Tennessee Whiskey, and a goosebump inducing rendition of Take It To The Limit by The Eagles which the crowd loudly sang along too. An amazing set to get the season started. If you have the chance, go see a Cold Creek County show live. Thankfully the guys will be really busy this summer, playing many festivals like Dauphin’s Country Fest, Calgary Stampede, Country Thunder Saskatchewan, Boots and Hearts, Lucknow… Ya, busy. A great day at Country Wild capped off perfectly with Cold Creek County. Already looking forward to next year.
