Dean Brody’s Beautiful Freakshow Tour kicked off in Hamilton to a full house at FirstOntario Concert Hall. Sometimes going to shoot a show, we will be able to photograph the first few songs but unable to remain for the rest of the set. It’s not uncommon and this was the situation for this night in the Hammer. This won’t be a full review but we have coverage of Dean’s tour all across the country so, much more to come!
I must give major kudos to the lighting crew on this tour and/or at FirstOntario Concert Hall. The lights were amazing. I have never shot a show so bright, aside from outdoor venues. So as a lighting tech, if your only beat out by the sun, you’re doing it right and I thank you.
The first leg of this tour features the rising stars James Barker Band, the duo from Alberta High Valley and of course, the big man Dean Brody. I’ve captured JBB and Dean a couple of times before and they are always a great time to shoot. This was my first time photographing and seeing High Valley and albeit brief, they also lived up to all the praise I have heard about them.
Being a seated theatre, photographers are kept at a distance from the stage. Either off to the sides along the wall or back at the soundboard as to not get in the way of the fans. Since it might keep movement limited, we try to capture moments that express the feeling and emotions of the show. Always fun to do and all of our guys at Tour Bus are exceptional at doing so. Here are images from Hamilton, fans were jacked up from the start. All three bands were on their A game and Dean really had everyone buzzing. Look here for your chance to catch the Beautiful Freakshow in the near future!
