In the music industry today there are a lot of solid acts out there, but to go from being a solid performer to a standout one is no easy task. On February 3rd at the Fallsview Casino’s entertainment complex Chris Janson established himself as a standout artist. This was a show that felt like a non-stop sing along and Janson has officially added himself to my list of top 10 must-see country artists for the year.
Janson is a singer and songwriter with a long list of credits to his name. Before he burst onto the “Top 5” scene with Buy Me a Boat in 2015, he was writing songs for the likes of Tim McGraw and playing harmonica for Lee Brice.
Tonight he burst onto the stage (literally) in his opener with Red Neck Life and got the crowd immediately up on their feet (which is no easy task with a casino crowd). This included multiple harmonica solos and later in the evening he demonstrated his musical prowess with a drum solo between songs.
Janson covered classics like Billy Joel’s Piano Man and an almost Green Day-sounding version of Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash (which he closed out the show with) in a way that was authentic, original and extremely crowd pleasing. Janson was also one of those performers who let you into his life with stories about his family and the people who matter most to him. This ability to connect with the audience, combined with his unbelievable high energy and natural talent made for one of the best shows I’ve seen in years.
If you get a chance to see Janson live, I highly recommend going…and going well rested and ready for one hell of a show.
