Another Four Chords event, and another sell out crowd. This is the norm now at The Dakota Tavern. The premier songwriters event sells out well in advance, even before lineups are announced. There is a core group that attend each event and it just adds to the friendly and relaxed atmosphere where the artists are able to let loose and tell their stories.
This Four Chords was an all Canadian affair featuring Jadea Kelly, Mike Biggar, Todd Stewart of The Northern Beauties, Wendell Ferguson, and host Andrea England. As per usual, special guests pop in and Andrea will give up her seat for a song or two. On this evening, Kelly Prescott and Chad Murphy jumped up for a couple songs, as well as Noel Johnson of Johnson Crook.
The songs and stories behind them fell among a wide range of topics and emotions. Lighthearted, playful songs with plenty of laughs to heavy, solemn songs and stories about mental health and experiences with losing loved ones. Songs about divorce, stealing someones man, love songs, distaste for fiddles… Even a song about big Johnsons (boat motors, obviously). This event never disappoints and always impresses. Even if a songwriter’s name is not immediately familiar to you, by the time you leave you are a new fan.
There was also a big announcement coming out of the 13th instalment, and that is Four Chords And The Truth will be at Boots And Hearts on Saturday August 11th, at noon. This will be huge. Tickets will be limited and will move fast. The Dakota Tavern will always be the home of FCATT but a quick jaunt up the road to Boots will be a blast. Is it August yet?
