The Game On Tour with James Barker Band at the Marquee Ballroom in Halifax, filling out the hat trick of amazing performers was JoJo Mason, and Meghan Patrick.
The show was also part of the Road To Cavendish Series, and we can only hope all three artists will be playing the 10th Anniversary Cavendish Beach Music Festival this July!
The first artist to take to the field, aka the stage, was leadoff hitter JoJo Mason, the singer/songwriter with a larger-than-life personality that can get any crowd on their feet having a good time. Mason treated the audience to some of his classics, as well as some new music, along with a cover of Blackstreet’s No Diggity that sent the crowd into a frenzy. The musician is no stranger to Halifax, and often says he feels at home there — and I’m pretty sure he’s always welcome on the east coast. With Mason, what you see on stage is the same as what you see off stage — an outgoing people-person who loves his fans and always makes time for them.
Stepping into the ring for Round 2, heavy-hitter Meghan Patrick had both the guys and girls screaming her name and singing along to her songs. There’s no hiding the fact Patrick is a real Country Girl, from her tattoos to her whisky shots, to her sound on stage. This performance was the most polished performance I’ve seen in a long time. While Patrick kept the hits coming with tracks like Be Country With Me and her newest single Country Music Made Me Do It, for me personally, and for many fans, her rendition of Dolly Parton’s Jolene was the highlight of the night.
Soon enough it was time for the James Barker Band to hit the ice. The fans went wild as each team member made their way to the stage, scoring goal after goal, song after song, hit after hit. Even local hockey superstars Sidney Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon could not stop these guys from winning this game.
I’ve witnessed and captured each of these team members many times, and I was still more than impressed with this show. Each act elevated their game, and this team is set to go all the way. Make sure you get your tickets for the game in your area.
