Photos & Review – Joshua Tyler
“It’s Friday, right?” Miranda Lambert asked her Rogers Arena audience after tearing
through the first two songs of what was  in fact  her Friday night set.

The songstress had kicked things off under the image of two crossed revolvers set on fire, she had literally come out guns blazing.  With a touring schedule that never seems to let up, the artist can certainly be forgiven a little jet lag here and there.  With boundless energy and a megawatt smile, she didn’t look for a minute like she felt any.

The crowd roared in affirmation, and Miranda launched into a self-described drinking
song to celebrate.  Beers and cell phones were held aloft by the hundreds.  The country
star shone like a golden light at center stage, a deep-fried force of nature backed up by
a bevy of brilliant musicians and the image of animated horses on fire projected twenty
feel tall behind her.  It was a big night for music in Vancouver, and the Texas artist
showed up on a mission to make herself heard downtown.

The show did not lack for spectacle for one minute, but you would be hard pressed to
take your eyes off the magnetic Miranda.  This is an artist who is fearless about putting
the rock in country rock, holding her brazen sound together with a delicate vocal touch.
Only a few show-goers were seated once the concert kicked off, and none were when
Miranda reminded all present that it was Friday night in Vancouver.

Miranda Lambert’s studio work is sonically weighty and reverb-soaked stuff, and her
sprightly bass-laden pastel tones translated beautifully into the spacious arena venue.
With nearly a dozen musicians on stage, the polyphonic pomp hit as hard as it was
sweet.  There’s no lack of softness in her repertoire, but for much of the evening the
artist opted to err on the side of volume in order to fill every corner of the big stage she’d
taken.  She took up all of the space she had to work with, and made a big dent with a deft hand.

Vancouver is Miranda Lambert’s first stop on the 7-city cross country Canadian leg of
her Livin’ Like Hippies tour, which will cap off in Winnipeg on October 7th before turning
back South.  With two more BC dates in Kelowna and Prince George in the next two
days, West coast country fans would be remiss to miss out on this towering artist’s
powerful presence while she’s still North of the border.
