Serena Ryder Wows Halifax – Photos & Review – James Bennett

This past weekend at Casino NS, Halifax, I witnessed one of the best live shows to date.  That is not a comment I make often. Having captured hundreds of shows over the past few years.  Even though this was not in a genre of music that I would consider myself a true fan of, as my heart still resides with the  country world.   But this show was one of the best overall shows I have seen and  fell in love with Serena Ryder on this night.

Ryder performed two night at the Casino in Halifax.  I was there on the second night to capture the show and now I regret not attending both shows.  It is hard to explain why I feel this was one of the best shows.  But I will give it a try.  As a fan of music and live performances this show just had it all and it seemed to be easy for Ryder.  She has one of must unique powerful voices I have heard.  I had to take out my hearing protection to get the pure sound of her vocals as it was just too good to muffle with protection.  If I had to compare her voice to another artist it would be hard to find just one artist.  I could hear Stevie Nicks, Sarah McLachlan, Bryan Adams and even some Pink in her voice.  It truly is hard to explain but your just in awe when you hear her sing.

To add to her unique sound her showmanship was authentic and sincere.  Her expressions just seemed to match the lyrics she was singing.  Her expressions also made it easy for us to feel what that song was meant to make you feel.  Overall, Ryder made it look too easy.  Ryder truly enjoys what she is doing and as fun to watch.  It must be true that if you do what you love you will never work another day in your life.  Ryder should be a vocal coach on the show The Voice.

Ryder has a great band with her which made it feel like a grand show at Caesars Palace.  However, during the show she plays 5 or 6 songs acoustically alone on stage while interacting with the audience who were happy to respond.  Often yelling out requests for her to sing which Ryder was glad to perform.

Ryder has a new album soon to be released May 26th, 2017 called Utopia and if you pre-order the album you will get an additional 3 songs.  Ryder is currently touring to promote her album with many dates ahead and I encourage you to check out her website and get your tickets.
