Well lets just say one of the BIGGEST country tours of the summer kicked off their 9 date What Makes You Country Tour in Toronto last night and 30,000+ crammed into Rogers Centre for the 1st of 4 big concerts there this summer. Luke Bryan, Sam Hunt, Jon Pardi and Morgan Wallen kicked off the summer with one hell of a show for the 1st stop on the What Makes You Country Tour (XL Stadium Edition).
Things started early for a Thursday night show but when you have 4 incredible artists on the line up you need to start early. Let me tell ya. This Morgan Wallen kid is the real deal. Getting out there and owning the stage from the moment he walked out. Using the catwalk from song one. Morgan and the band jammed out to cuts from his brand new album If I Know Me and had fans singing right along. I had a girl ask me in the pit “Who the hell is this and where has he been hiding” I may have mentioned she needs to follow The Bus more because we introduced our readers to Morgan last year and he has been on one hell of a ride since. Great performance my only knock I would have to say is that it wasn’t long enough. But that keeps you coming back for more.
Up next was California native and one of the best voices in Country Music today, Jon Pardi. I have been a fan of Jon’s since the first time I saw him live when he was supporting Kip Moore on the Wild Ones Tour I think it was. His album California Sunrise hasn’t stopped playing in my house for over a year. And there is just something about that traditional sound mixed with a bit more punch I guess you could say. Jon managed to kick the set off with a brand new called Paycheck which seemed to get a good reaction from the crowd. My personal favourite of the set was Night Shift. Just something about the delivery on that one made it stand out.
Lets say the crowd decibel level went a little crazy when Sam Hunt hit the stage. The ladies were just a tad excited to see the Georgia native and opening the set with his brand new smash single Downtowns Dead. The single has been out less than a month but the crowd was singing right along. This was my first time seeing Sam perform and have to say… Damn he is good. Just something about seeing an artist up on stage having a blast and feeding off the crowd. Sam banged out all his hits and added a few fun covers to round out a great performance.
When you start setting off fireworks before the show even starts you know something big is about to happen and well Luke Bryan is about as big as they come these days. Bryan brought the house down last night. While the torrential down pour happened outside the fire was burnin’ inside from Pyro to lasers It was the full package. This was my first time catching one of Luke’s performances and was impressed at how well he used the HUGE stage and the production of the entire stage. I have to admit Luke wasn’t an artists I was dying to see but after witnessing the performance last night can’t wait to do it again out at Cavendish Beach in July!
What a way to kick off the summer. Huge thanks to Live Nations, Universal Music and The Rogers Centre for having us. The next big show at Rogers Centre for the county fans will be Zac Brown Band on July 13th! You won’t want to miss that one and you can grab tickets for that HERE! Cheers.
