The lads from BC (The Washboard Union) stopped into Elements Night Club in Kitchener this past weekend and boy did they bring a party.
Saturday night in KW was a blast. It had been awhile (10+ years) since I had taken in a show at Elements but I sure hope it won’t be that long before I am back. What a great space to see a show. Great lighting and sound was darn good to. The night kicked off with local artist Jason Maxwell taking the stage and unfortunately didn’t make it to the stage in time to snag any pics of Jason but can tell you I did a great job setting up the night.
Following Mr. Maxwell were the fellas from Toronto, Johnson Crook. This was my 3rd time seeing the guys over the last 18 months and I can tell you they have grown in a BIG way! The sound was much tighter than I recall and the show is now a show. Not 4 guys standing on stage playing. More crowd interaction and just an all round better experience. The boys have some killer tunes and the current single Minnedosa is one of those songs, and was the perfect way to cap off a solid set. Be sure to head over to the bands Facebook page HERE. And give them a follow.
If you like fun, then you have got to see The Washboard Union. These guys really know how to bring a room to life. I remember them capping off an incredible summer of festivals at Lucknow Music in the Fields in late August. To have them back in Ontario for a few dates as a headlining act was fantastic. Such a high energy performance that the crowd seems to feed off and creates an atmosphere that makes the concert experience that much better. And after a 75+ min set you still didn’t want it to stop. (Love seeing Chris pull on David’s Beard in the below pic)
The boys played the hits such as Shot of Glory, Maybe it’s the Moonshine, Head over Heals and the band’s current single Shine. Along with the hits they covered some great songs like Great Day To Be Alive and a great medley of I’m In A Hurry and Don’t Stop Believing. Later in the set a young lady by the name of Juleann Chadbourn joined the band to perform a cover of Dean Brody’s Bounty and they nailed it.
What a great night of music in Kitchener. Huge thanks to Cabin Media for bringing such a great band to the area and thanks to the bands for putting on such a great show.
