It’s no surprise that people count down the days until Oro-Medonte’s WayHome festival each year. Other than the obvious draw of a killer lineup featuring a variety of amazing musical acts like Cage The Elephant, Vance Joy and Imagine Dragons you will notice that you are walking through a sea of people who are free to be themselves.
One of the many things that I love the most about the WayHome festival is the absence of judgement. Nothing is too wild or weird. Boasting installations along the walkways that remind you to stay in the present moment, like the colourful and flower filled “We Are Here” sign, there is a noticeable positivity that runs through the Burl’s Creek Event Grounds. People are happy, the music is great and everyone is kind to everyone.
What better way to get to hear some of your favourite artists like Banks, Charles Bradley and his Extraordinaires, Dashboard Confessional, Charlotte Cardin, and so many more than in a crowd of people with nothing but love and a good time in their hearts and on their minds. Where else can you have punk rockers The Dirty Nil sharing the stage with rapper Clairmont the Second or the soulful Begonia on the same bill as the electronic Phantogram. It’s uplifting to know that there is a place where regardless of your race, religion, gender, age, sexual preference or political views, music can bring us all together for a good time. Do yourself a favour and find your WayHome next year!
In the meantime take a look at some of the images our Mike Highfield and Corey Kelly captured over the course of the weekend.
